Reliance Retail pilots 'One-Hour Delivery' for groceries and FMCG in Mumbai

Khushboo Ali

Reliance Retail, the retail arm of Reliance Industries, is testing a new "one-hour delivery service" for groceries and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in select areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This move marks Reliance's entry into Mumbai's competitive quick-commerce sector, currently dominated by players like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto.

The service, integrated into the JioMart app as a 'hyperlocal delivery' option, aims to fulfill orders within an hour. Reliance plans to gradually reduce delivery times to 30-45 minutes as the system expands.

Unlike its competitors who often rely on dark stores and large delivery fleets, Reliance will leverage its existing store network, warehouses, and partnered kirana stores to fulfill orders. This approach aligns with the company's JioMart Partner initiative, which connects local stores to Reliance's wholesale arm.

This pilot follows Reliance's decision to discontinue its previous quick-commerce venture, JioMart Express, last year. If successful, the service could be expanded to include apparel and electronics in the future.
