The BMC health department confirmed that the doubling rate of infection in Mumbai has worsened to 34 days, given the rapid 2% growth and decelerated 79% recovery rate. Due to this rampant spread, the civic body has sealed about 777 buildings in the municipal limits and turned 76 areas into COVID-19 containment zones, as of Friday. Testing too has been ramped up across the metropolis and BMC data shows that over 55,741 more COVID-19 tests were done here.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive in Mumbai was hampered due to the shortage of dosages on Friday. Out of 120 vaccine centres in the state, 75 had to suspend the drive due to the unavailability of doses. While the vaccine dearth raised concerns, the Mayor informed that on Monday, Mumbai will receive about 76,000 to 1 lakh doses, which will help to actively resume the vaccination drill.

Reportedly, all immunity sessions in Mumbai will be closed over the weekend, in wake of the weekend lockdown. These restrictions will be honoured across the state under 'Break the Chain' curbs announced by the Maharashtra government on April 4. While these list several protocols such as weekend lockdown, night curfew and other guidelines, the Health Minister informed that the state will have to consider complete lockdown if the situation is not brought under effective and prompt control.
