Despite the decline in the COVID-19 positivity rate and fresh infections, covid cases continue to rise in Maharashtra. For the fourth time in a week, the state's morbid count scaled to a new peak, with 2,771 deaths in just 24 hours. The cumulative toll now clocks over 1.11 lakh, the highest in India. As per health officials, the fresh case count dipped to 10,442 infections on Sunday while the aggregate statistic crossed over the 59 lakh mark.

In Mumbai, new infections were arrested below the 1,000 level for the 17th consecutive day. The toll dipped from 749 from Saturday to 695 on Sunday, charting a course of natural dip. The MMR now nurses 18,166 cases. As per reports, with a steady recovery of 480 discharges, the country's financial capital has been able to control the pandemic rage.
The sudden spike in the death toll, however, stretches the COVID-19 threat here. The morbid count scaled to an alarming 86 on Sunday, after days of limited rise. As per the reports of the reconciled date, Mumbai city has witnessed 15,183 deaths due to coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic last year. The overall state toll also surged to a maximum of 1,11,104 deaths, raising concerns about the COVID impact.
The Mumbai Circle, comprising of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts, recorded a fall in new cases, from 2,267 to 2,056, with its caseload rising over 15,6 lakh. A total of 91 more deaths were added to the toll meter, pushing it to over 30,520. On the other hand, around 9.6 lakh people have been prescribed home isolation and those shunted to institutional quarantine total up to 6,160.
