A rising star in the world of powerlifting, 17-year-old Prithviraj Samrat Sengupta has captured attention with his extraordinary talent. Hailing from Mumbai and living with Down Syndrome, Prithvi has shattered expectations, winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Powerlifting Championship 2024 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. His achievement has not only made India proud but also inspired countless others.

Strength, passion, and purpose- The story of Prithviraj Sengupta

Prithviraj Sengupta’s journey into sports began with a doctor’s recommendation to improve his muscle tone. Initially exploring activities like skating and swimming, his breakthrough came when his coach Sanket Arekar recognised his exceptional strength.

Moving forward, after just six months of training under the late Shree Madhukar Darekar, a nine-time national champion, Prithvi quickly made a name for himself. He won Gold at both district and state competitions in Mumbai and beyond.

Prithvi was also coached by Aman Vohra, famously known as "India’s Strongest Man", after he relocated to Uttarakhand. Despite the rigorous demands of his training, Prithvi continues to nurture his love for baking and dancing, with dreams of opening a bakery that specialises in fitness-friendly treats.

All eyes on the Olympics

Moreover, at the National Powerlifting Championship in Kanpur in February 2024, Prithvi secured two gold medals and a silver. Before this, he had already made his mark by winning gold in the sub-junior category at the 2023 Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship in Malaysia.

As Prithvi sets his sights on competing in the Olympics, his journey is a testament to the incredible power of determination and support. His story inspires us all, reminding us that with passion, perseverance, and the right opportunities, any barrier can be shattered.
