After a brief hiatus, heavy showers made a comeback in Mumbai over the weekend, with the city recording nearly 100 mm of rainfall between Saturday and Sunday. However, today, Mumbai woke up to clear skies with scattered rainfall in isolated areas. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for today, but there are no alerts for the days following.

Due to the heavy showers, the water levels in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai surged by a significant 8% within a period of 24 hours, pushing the lake levels to nearly 90% by August 4 morning.

Heavy Rainfall lead to traffic havoc in Mumbai

Meanwhile, several instances cars and bus breakdowns due to water-logging were reported from various parts of Mumbai this weekend, resulting in significant traffic chaos. The situation is likely to worsen if the rainfall continues in the city.

In the meantime, traffic officials are urging commuters to stay vigilant on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, as Pune is under an Orange Alert starting today. So, keep an eye out for potential traffic hiccups on your journey!
