With onset of Ganeshotsav, Mumbai Traffic Police set up control rooms, watch towers

Traffic and parking restrictions in several areas of Mumbai have also been imposed because of the ongoing celebration.

With the onset of one of the most celebrated festivals of Maharashtra, the traffic police of the metropolis have geared up for the safety of the citizens. The Mumbai Traffic Police has erected watch towers, established five control rooms and has also imposed other traffic and parking restrictions in different regions of the city.

The ten-day Ganpati Festival began on the 31st of August and will continue till the 'Anant Chaturdashi' which will fall on September 9. Furthermore, the festival is being held in full swing, without any Covid-19 restrictions after two whole years because of which thousands of devotees will be visiting pandals.

Traffic Restrictions are in place during celebrations

Reportedly, parking restrictions have been imposed at 114 places in the city, while vehicular movement on 74 roads has been completely halted and one-way vehicular movement is allowed on 54 of the city. Moreover, plying of goods vehicles is totally banned on 57 roads of the metropolis.

The traffic control rooms have been set up in five prime locations where the celebrations take place including the Malad-Malwani T Junction, Shivaji Park, sea fronts at Girgaon, Ganesh Ghat in Powai and in Juhu.

BMC’s high-power cranes have also been stationed in various locations of the capital in order to handle the contingencies that occur during the breakdown of vehicles.

Barricading is done on various roads of the city for smooth procession of the crowd during the celebration. MTP has also urged the citizen to cooperate with the newly imposed traffic rules for safety purposes.
