South Goa's Hollant Beach wrecked by Cyclone Tauktae; check pictures here!
A gem of Goa's coastline, Hollant Beach is among the destinations that have suffered extensively due to Cyclone Tauktae. Famed for its wonderous stretch and spectacular views of the sunrise, this touristy destination of South Goa now stands devastated. The fury of Tauktae has affected the entire coastline of India and even inland states, such as UP and Rajasthan. Rescue operations by the Indian Navy and similar organisations are underway and hope to provide relief soon.
A beautiful beach of yore now in ruins!
Named after the nearby village, Hollant, this beach has been among the lesser-known attractions of Goa. While the nightlife here had always been a little mute compared to the other beaches of Goa, Hollant Beach was the preferred destination for those who enjoyed swimming in calm waters. Further, this beach was also a hub for water sports such as kayaking and other underwater adventures, during the pre-pandemic era.
However, after being hit by Cyclone Tauktae, the majority of the touristy aspects of Hollant Beach has been completely ruined. This beach was known for its calm waters and tidal waves were almost never observed here, hence, this destruction only goes on to highlight the magnitude of the cyclone.
Relief & rescue operations are ongoing
Originating in the Arabian Sea, the strong winds and heavy rain caused by the severe cyclonic storm- Tauktae, has wreaked havoc along the Indian coastline. Currently, the Indian Navy, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and other such units have been involved in relief and rescue operations along the western coast of India.
