Indian Super League 2020 is all set to kick off in Goa, November 20 onwards

The Football Sports Development Limited (FDSL) made a decision to host the new season behind closed doors across three stadiums in Goa.

Indian Premier League concluded earlier this week but sports lovers are in for a treat with Indian Super League all set to kick off in style from November 20. It will be the first major sporting event to be held in India during the Covid-19 pandemic, with Goa playing the host for all matches. The league will have eleven teams with East Bengal FC joining the bandwagon.

The 2020-2021 edition of the Indian Super League promises to be bigger and better with 115 matches to be played this season. The matches will be held without any spectators and strict social distancing rules. Currently, Indian Super League has released the fixtures till January 11, 2021.

The Football Sports Development Limited (FDSL) made a decision to host the new season behind closed doors across three stadiums in Goa. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Tilak Nagar Stadium in Vasco and the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, will be the three venues with strict social distancing protocols.

Rules to follow

All the teams need to have minimum of five and maximum of seven foreign players in the team. Among all the foreign players in the squad, at least one must be affiliated to Asian Football Confederation. It is also mandatory for all teams to have two Developmental Players in the squad; players who are born on or after January 1, 2000.

Unlike the last season, 2020-2021 edition will have eleven teams and new foreign players. As compared to last season, this year East Bengal FC will be making their debut in the Indian Super League. It promises to be a great season with big foreign players like Hernan Santana joining the Mumbai City FC.

It will be a challenge to maintain all the necessary precautions and safety measures, hosting a sporting event on a large scale in India. The league is one of the most illustrious football leagues in India with celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor and football legend Baichung Bhutia promoting the league.
