The official mascot and jersey of the 37th National Games to be held in Goa in October 2023, has been launched by the state's Chief Minister. On the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, the move was carried out at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium. The unveiling of the official mascot 'MOGA,' a bison representing the distinct identity of Goa, embodied the connection between the Games and the state's heritage.

State Is Ready To Welcome All Athletes

"Today a revolution is taking place in Goa, in the area of sports. Youth should prepare themselves to make a revolution here", the CM was quoted stating. He further added that it is a proud moment for Goa to host the National Games, and the government is committed to creating a robust sports culture within the state.

"The National Games shall serve as a catalyst for the overall refinement and growth of the existing sports ecosystem in the state," he said. Sports Minister Govind Gaude, Indian Olympic Association Chairperson P.T. Usha, ace boxer M.C. Mary Kom and others, were also present on the occasion.

The last National Games edition was held in Kerala in 2015, and Goa was to host the 36th edition in November 2016. However, due to interruptions in 2018 and 2019, given the state's inability to provide the needed infrastructure, the Games were further postponed to 2020. But then again the COVID pandemic had taken over, leading to further uncertainties and postponements.

Reportedly, the infrastructure for the Games is now ready and the state is prepared to welcome all athletes. It has also been decided by the Indian Sports Ministry that the National Games will be held every two years, except during the Olympics and Asian Games.
