North and North-Central part of the country is facing probably the worst heatwave like condition this year. Meanwhile, slight rainfall in the last few days has brought some relief from the scorching and humid conditions in Goa.

The Meteorology (MET) department issued a 3-day warning on May 16 predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy rainfall at isolated parts in North and South Goa on May 17,18 and 19.

Cyclonic circulation in Kerala affects Goa's weather

As per the current forecast by IMD, the movement of cyclone Asani over Kerala is expected to leave an even bigger imprint on Goa's weather from tomorrow. Apart from the possible moisture incursion in the mid-troposphere due to the cyclonic circulation, a trough spanning from Vidarbha to Kerala is also affecting Goa's current weather pattern, claim IMD officials.

Heavy rainfall likely to occur on May 19

Going by the weather forecast, thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places across Goa are likely to continue until May 19. Moreover, heavy rainfall (7-11 cm in 24 hours) is also expected at isolated places across North and South Goa tomorrow.

The maximum temperature in Goa is not expected to deviate from the normal till tomorrow. Moreover, the coastal state is likely to register a dip in mercury by 2°C in the next 3 days.

In line with the change in weather conditions, the MeT department has also warned all the fishermen to avoid the movement near Kerala-Karnataka coasts today and Goa-South Maharashtra coast tomorrow.
