IMD Warning: Orange alert issued in Goa for today and tomorrow!
An Orange alert was issued in Goa for 29th and 30th June by India Meteorological Department (IMD). As per the report by Meteorological Centre, Goa, rainfall ranging from heavy and very heavy is expected in isolated areas.
Additionally, the IMD notice also advises fishermen to not venture along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast as short intense winds gusting to around 40 kmph are expected along with the rainfall spells. These winds are expected to prevail in the region till July 2.
Goans to beware of frail structures and rough sea conditions
As per the order, very heavy rainfall exceeding 11cms is expected in the next 24 hours at isolated places and heavy rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places till July 2nd. The reports also stated the presence of an off-shore trough, possible strengthening of pressure gradient and strong winds in the lower levels of the atmosphere along the west coast are the main reasons for heavy rainfall over Goa for the next three to four days.
Citizens are warned against the possibility of falling of weak trees or structures and disruption of civic services like water and electricity supply. Water logging in agricultural fields and local mudslides, rough sea conditions along the coast, road and rail congestions, and water clogging in residential and commercial areas are expected.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places over the state on Tuesday. And currently, the southwest monsoon is also normal over Goa, however, it is expected to take pace in the upcoming days, says IMD.
