The seventh edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which was postponed due to the widespread covid pandemic in 2020, is all set to take place in India this October. This will be the country's first hosting of the Women's FIFA World Cup and the second hosting of a FIFA tournament, including the men's FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017.

There are sixteen teams, including India (automatically qualified as the host), which have qualified for the final tournament.

Hosting the tournament is a "wish-come-true" - Yolanda de Sousa

The Goa Chief Minister, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs organized a meeting with the FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarza and FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022 Project Lead Oliver Vogt on July 14th.

Former Indian footballer, Yolanda de Sousa, widely known as the "hat-trick queen," has expressed her happiness over the country hosting the tournament, saying it is "a wish come true moment" for her.

"Now that we are hosting the first-ever FIFA women's event, it is critical that we take the games to smaller cities and make them fall in love with the game. I sincerely hope people do not see the FIFA U-17 World Cup as just another competition and then move on. I want people to keep talking about it even when it's over," de Sousa added. CM Sawant has given assurance for a successful tournament in the country.
