Beneficiaries can now get bone marrow transplants under Ayushman Bharat Scheme

Bone marrow transplants, an otherwise costly procedure, will now be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Offering better health services to the poor and vulnerable beneficiaries, this scheme covers more than 365 procedures and aims to provide monetary assistance for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

Under the ambit of Ayushman Bharat scheme, cardholders can now go for bone marrow transplants too along with several other medical procedures spanning various fields like interventional cardiology, mental health, nephrology and neurology in India.

One of the significant additions, the stem-cell transplant is a life saving procedure usually recommended to cancer patients as the last resort. Last year, the National Health Authority had added kidney transplant to the list of eligible procedures that could be availed by using the Ayushman Bharat card.
Talking about the significance of this move, Sangeeta Singh, CEO of state agency for comprehensive health insurance and integrated services said, "Medical literature shows that patients in need of this transplant, especially those from poor socio-economic backgrounds, do not opt for the procedure on account of the cost factor. Thus, it has been included in the list of services provided under the umbrella of Ayushman Bharat."

Under the flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the National Health Authority (NHA) has recently launched a public dashboard to share real-time information on this nation-wide scheme as well.

As per the statement released by the authorities, this dashboard will include detailed information on core registries under ABDM that includes health account numbers, healthcare professionals registry and other categories of relevant data.
