Coastal areas of India could now flaunt Goan-style beach shacks
Whenever one thinks of a beachside vacation in India, usually, the name of Goa comes into their heads. It is a popular holiday spot among Indians as it boasts pleasant beaches, adventure sports activities, a multitude of accommodation facilities and of course the popular beach shacks which are only exclusive to Goa.
However, India consists of other exotic coastlines apart from Goa which could soon be graced with Goa-like beach shacks as the Environmental Ministry has given a nod to the idea.
The new CRZ notification will allow establishment of beachside shacks
The decision which was the part of an amendment to the Island Coastal Zone Regulation and the Coastal Regulations Zone (CRZ) notifications of 2019 has been implemented. This amendment will allow the establishment of beachside shacks in coastal areas other than in Goa.
Furthermore, the centre has also allowed the manual extraction from sandbars and beach shacks in CRZ areas in different states of India. This shall also enable the state governments to plan small infrastructure projects such as standalone jetties, small wharves, breakwaters etc.
Notably, the Coastal Regulation Zone rules govern human and industrial activity close to the coastline areas to protect fragile ecosystems. CRZ rules regulate activities near the coastal land up to 500 m from the high-tide line and 100 m along banks of creeks, estuaries, backwaters and rivers.
