Farewell, Vistara! Airline bids emotional yet optimistic goodbye ahead of Air India merger
The Goa-Bengaluru Vistara flight landed on its destination on Sunday, marking an emotional end to the airline's chapter in the book of India's civil aviation sector.
On November 12, i.e., tomorrow, Vistara Airline's merger with TATA-owned Air India will be completed and all the passengers who have pre-booked tickets will be migrated to the latter.
Merger two years in the making
Notably, this Air India-Vistara merger was finalised in November 2022 but has taken two years to conclude for a variety of reasons. These include protests around the salary structure of the migrating Vistara employees, the resulting pilot shortages and more.
However, as the merge is completed now, Vistara has promised a smooth transition for its passengers. In fact, personnel have been deployed at kiosks and help desks at airports across the country with 'Air India x Vistara' t-shirts to help passengers with old Vistara tickets.
Gradually, the old Vistara check-in counters and ticketing offices will become Air India counters.
Enhanced connectivity with Air India x Vistara
The integrated airline resulting out of the merger will provide connectivity to a total of 90 domestic and international destinations. Moreover, the 'Air India x Vistara' fleet have over 200 planes. The fleet will come in handy as 1,15,000 passengers with old Vistara tickets are expected to fly with the unified entity in the very first month post the merger.
Approaching the merger with positivity, Vistara Airlines posted on Instagram saying "As the plane ascends, so do our dreams, so do our dreams; let's glide towards the future, where the sky isn't the limit, but just the beginning".
