India records a marginal dip in infection with 2,827 cases in the last 24 hours

India on Thursday recorded a marginal respite from COVID-19, as the daily tally dip to 2,827 cases from the previous day's 2,900 mark. As per the figures of Union Health Ministry, around 70 fewer infections were reported in the last 24 hours, recording a small dip in infection. Adding to the pandemic relied, the daily positivity rate has also witnessed a slight decline of 0.60%.

In the past 24 hours, around 3,230 patients recovered from COVID, while 24 succumbed to infection, balancing the active load at 19,067 patients (as of Thursday). This number accounts for about 0.04% of the total positive cases in the country.

The low active figures can be attributed to the high-volume sampling in the country. A total of 4,71,276 tests were conducted in a single day on Thursday to thoroughly screen the infections and treat them as fast as possible. This scaled testing has further helped to limit the weekly infection rate at 0.72% in the country. Notably, India has successfully conducted 84.24 crore COVID-19 tests since the onset of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, India's recovery rate is also up to a 98.74% high, which is backed by an active vaccination drive here. As of May 12, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 190.83 crore mark, achieved via 2,38,04,573 sessions. Over 3.10 crore adolescents have been administered with a first dose jab since the beginning of the vaccination drive.
