Knocksense Shorts | FSSAI introduces revised labelling rules for pre-packaged foods

With the motive to increase consumer awareness about the shelf-life of food products, and ensure that consumers can make informed decisions about the quality and safety of the products they purchase, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made changes to the labeling and display regulations for pre-packaged food items.

As per the new guidelines, Food Business Operators (FBOs) are required to replace the phrase "Best Before Date" with either "Expiry Date" or "Use By Date" on all packaged food items. Furthermore, the term, “Best Before Date” can be displayed as additional information on the label.

Notably, the FSSAI is a regulatory body in India that oversees food safety and standards across the country. The agency is responsible for ensuring that all food products meet specific quality and safety standards.
