Indore Municipal Corporation's new budget proposes developments across all sectors of the city!

Aiming to improve all facets of the city's infrastructure, Indore Municipal Corporation passed its annual budget on Wednesday. As per reports, the comprehensive plan ranges from converting 5 city wards into zero-waste zones to installing solar lights at 5 major roads.

Additionally, all households across 5 different wards will be equipped with water recharging systems and 9 tanks will be constructed to meet the water requirements of 29 villages. Given the scope and scale of projects, it can be expected that municipal officials are trying to revamp the rural and urban areas of the city.

As per reports, more than 100 crores have been allocated for the Swachcha Bharat Mission and new equipment and resources shall be procured from this amount. Further, a construction and demolition waste plant with the capacity of dealing with 500 metric tonnes of scrap materials, is proposed at the trenching ground. While this establishment shall come up based on public-private partnership, a material recovery facility has also been proposed.

Reportedly, 100-kilometre long sewage is planned for the city and the municipal corporation will bear expenses of more than 450 crores to ameliorate the current sewage infrastructure. New machines will be purchased to ensure better treatment of the sewage water under this project, which includes the rural regions also. Additionally, the proposals also entail the setting up of a chlorination tank in the Rau region.

Concessions on advance payment of property taxes extended till 30 Sept

As per reports, the citizens could avail of a 6.25% discount for the advance payment of property taxes for the year 2021-22 till 30 June. Now, the deadline for taking benefits from this scheme has been extended till 30 September and the citizens can pay the tax without an excessive charge by December 31. In addition to this, reports state that the authorities have not introduced new taxes or any hike in the current ones, assuring the welfare of all.

With an objective to curtail the spread of contamination, the proposed expenditure for deploying initiatives in this direction have been doubled, compared to the last year's allocation. Amid a string of proposed initiatives, reports state that masks will be given freely or at subsidised rates across the frequented location in the city. While shopping centres, railway and bus stands shall be provided with amplified supplies of sanitisation equipment, the authorities have also converged their attention on safe disposal of the increased biomedical waste.

In a bid to strengthen the present facilities in Indore, a sports centre will be set up at an approximate cost of ₹20 crores. Further, the authorities are also trying to upscale the local transport with the introduction of around 400 buses with the inception of new bus stops. Given the widespread interventions planned for the city, it is clear that the Indore Municipal Corporation envisions to propel developments across all sectors in the city.
