Reportedly, the Indore-Khandwa project was handed over to the National Highway Authority of India two years ago by the government of Madhya Pradesh. Since then, several problems and hurdles have surfaced before the completion of work. As per NHAI officials, all these challenges were discussed in detail during the official meet with the Union Minister Road Transport and Highways Minister.
As per reports, the Central Authority was in Indore on a two-day visit to inaugurate 34 new infrastructure projects across MP. The foundation stone of these road projects, worth more than ₹9,000 crores, was laid down at a function organised at the Brilliant Convention Centre on September 16.
He also took this opportunity to hear the Highway agency's troubles related to the problems in acquiring the project land from the forest department. Besides, the construction of this road is also extremely challenging because of the hilly territory between Simrol and Barwaha. Going by the reports, the current condition of the single track present on this route is not up to the mark as the road is crammed with potholes.
MPRDC built the original road 15 years ago

Purportedly, this road was under the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation earlier and was originally built it 15 years ago under the BOT model. Owing to low maintenance and increased vehicular movement, the condition of the road worsened bit by bit, over the course of time.
As per reports, the railroad track between Indore and Khandwa got shut down around five years ago due to gauge conversion. This has further increased the burden on the road, deteriorating its condition in the recent five years. This upcoming project, thus, is expected to provide an easier and smoother commute to those taking this route.
34 Infrastructure projects inaugurated across MP
Additionally, the central minister also inaugurated 34 other infrastructure projects across Madhya Pradesh. The foundation stone of these road projects, worth more than ₹9,000 crores, was laid down at a function organised at the Brilliant Convention Centre on September 16.
