Indore to host 35th edition of MPL National Under-9 Open and Girl’s Chess Championship 2022
The 35th edition of the MPL National Under-9 Open and Girl’s Chess Championship 2022 will be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh for the first time. It is aimed at encouraging young talent to participate in sports and represent India at the international level.
The tournament will commence on December 25, 2022, and end on January 2, 2023. The championship will be played at the Indore Public School Campus.
Top players to represent India in World Under-10 Chess Championship 2023
The will be jointly organised by Indore Public School and All Indore Chess Association under the ages of All India Chess Federation and Madhya Pradesh Chess Ad-hoc Committee.
As per the organisers of the championship, participants will be awarded from the prize pool of ₹5 lakh. The first rank holder will be awarded ₹50,000/-, the second rank will be awarded ₹36,000/-, and the third rank will be awarded ₹30,000/-.
So far, 195 entries have been recorded for the open category and 90 for the Girl's category from 26 states and UTs. Reportedly, the top 2 players from each category will be given the chance to represent India in the World Under-10 Chess Championship 2023.
Digital chess boards to used for the first time
According to the International Master Akshat Khamparia, Digital chess boards will be used in the tournament for the first time, offering a seamless experience for viewers. Additionally, the live telecast of this competition will be available on many online platforms.
Other than two ace chess players from each state/UT, seeded players will also be given a chance to show their talent. Notably, the MPL National chess championship will follow all the rules of the International Chess Federation under the Swiss system. The tournament comprises a total of 11 rounds and the time control of 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move will be followed.
As per the reports, all the participants with their managers will be provided free accommodation at the campus.
