Indore, renowned as the "flavour capital," offers a diverse culinary landscape, with the moong bhajiya shining brightly, particularly in the chilly seasons.

Moong bhajiyas, although available year-round, truly steal the show during winters, (which seem to be around the corner) seamlessly complementing Indore's famous Pohe-Jalebi combo. Amidst the many vendors of this savoury treat, the 41-year-old Shree Mahalaxmi Moong ke Bhajiye near the LIG crossing stands out and needs no introduction!

Standing tall for four decades now, Shree Mahalaxmi Moong Ke Bhajiye still steals the show

Mahalaxmi Moong Bhajiya's hallmark lies in their meticulous handcrafted spices, infusing each bite with a unique depth of flavour. Their secret recipe incorporates premium ingredients such as asafoetida, ginger, garlic, green chilies, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and an array of aromatic spices.

This iconic delicacy has not only won over Indore but also neighboring cities due to its enduring and distinctive flavours. According to Jitendra Kushwaha, shop's proud owner, these moong dal bhajiyas are believed to possess medicinal properties, especially in relieving common colds and constipation, thanks to their fiery spice blend.

Served with two delectable chutneys – a zesty mint-coriander blend and a sweet yogurt-based creation with grated coconut and a hint of sugar – these crispy delights have remained a timeless favorite.

Four decades ago, a mere 100 grams cost only ₹2. Today, you can enjoy the same amount for just ₹30, even as the price of moong dal has increased. Yet, the taste remains timeless!
