Benefitting students in remote areas, first-of-its-kind mobile library on camels starts in Rajasthan

The current times of the pandemic have definitely proved that necessity fuels innovation. Taking this idea to the grassroots, camels are now being used for a variety of purposes in Rajasthan. When millions of students stand stranded amid the confines of their homes, the authorities are using the ship of the desert to ensure a regular supply of books for them. Through the novel initiative of a camel-borne mobile library, the authorities are fueling the lamp of education for children in far-flung areas of the state.

As a part of this scheme, the first mobile library started operations in the inner regions of the Jodhpur district. While it is difficult for cars and other vehicles to navigate their routes through the rough terrains of the desert, camels can easily serve the purpose. Initiated under the International Reading Campaign 2021, this inventive mobile inventory has nearly 1,500 books, most of which are related to stories and drawing.

The launch of this scheme has been possible with the collective efforts of the state Education Department and 'Room to Read' under the International Reading Campaign 2021. Now, the initiative will make sure that the students can read and write regularly within the four walls of their homes. According to the available information, this movable library will walk through the routes of the Osiyan sub-block till September 8.

Further, it has been informed that Room to Read has also rolled out campaigns with the themes of "India gets reading at home" and "Nahin rukenge nanhe kadam, Ghar per rah kar bhi sikhenge hum".
