Complete lockdown declared in Jaipur & other Rajasthan districts from May 10 to May 24!

All wedding functions have been cancelled till May 31.

In an attempt to tighten the grip over soaring COVID tallies in Rajasthan, the state government declared that all districts across the territory will observe a complete lockdown from 5 AM on May 10 to 5 AM on May 24. Announced by the CM in a cabinet meeting on Thursday, this intervention aims to curtail the contamination from entering villages and infecting youths, amongst other things. Previously, the state was put under a 'Red Alert- Public Discipline Fortnight' after the COVID graphs spiked higher.

While the state was already clamped under a long list of restraints, the administration laid out a new set of guidelines for the citizens. As per new rules, wedding functions shall remain canceled till May 31. All marriage lawns shall remain shut during this period and all advance deposits will have to be returned by the owners. 'Band, Baaja Baraat' and associated facilities have been suspended with immediate effect while court marriages and home weddings with only 11 guests are allowed.

All MNREGS projects have been halted for the period of the lockdown. Additionally, citizens are prohibited from commuting within the state during the lockdown and those travelling from other territories will have to show an RT-PCR report not older than 72 hours from the time of travel. They will be permitted entry only if the report says negative.

While there are specific times for the opening and closure of some establishments, all religious places will stand closed for the entire duration of the lockodwn. The Chief Minister has further asked the central government to impose a nationwide lockdown if the spiraling chain of infections has to be controlled soon.

With 46,206 active COVID cases registered on Thursday, Jaipur remains to be the hardest-hit district in Rajasthan. While 3,440 new cases were recorded in the state capital on May 6, the count of fatalities surged with 46 deaths on the same day. As of now, a cumulative tally of 1,32,216 individuals has been affected by the COVID virus in Jaipur.
