Legal action to be taken against those found misbehaving with tourists in Rajasthan

In a bid to promote Rajasthan as a major centre of tourism and hospitality, the state government recently passed the Rajasthan Tourism Business (Amendment) Bill, 2021. As per the new bill, misbehaviour with tourists will warrant strict action as the crime will now be included under the category of cognizable offence. With this step, the administration attempts to deliver a safer and more welcoming experience to the tourists coming to the desert state.

Repeated offence to result in a non-bailable warrant

With the recent amendment presented in the legislative assembly, Section 27-A has now been added to this Bill. As per the addition, the related offences will now be cognizable and bailable. However, if the offence mentioned in sub-section 3 of section 13 is repeated, it will become non-bailable. This provision is included in subsection 4 of section 13 of the amendment.

Bill originally introduced in 2010 to promote tourism

Introduced in the year 2010, this bill was brought forth with the aim to drive tourism-related business and developments in the state. Notably, the main motive of this bill was to prevent misbehaviour with the travellers, making sure that the tourists go back with happy memories.

As per the administration, the amendment was the need of the hour as earlier, this bill did not mention if the punishment for this offence was bailable or non bailable. After the recent amendment, the crime has now been marked as a cognizable offence. As tourism contributes majorly to the state economy, this initiative will help in fueling progress by strengthening this sector. Further, the government is working on a list of other schemes in light of the harsh effects caused by the pandemic
