Playing the role of a saviour for sick plants and trees, a 'tree ambulance' in Jaipur has marked seven years of a long journey dedicated to saving the varied flora across the city. Started by two friends, the initiative has grown to win support from a large number of environmentally conscious folks, who have pooled their efforts for enriching the city's green cover. As per reports, Team 10, a group of 100 individuals planted 1 lakh trees in the Vidhyanagar region, recently.

Lakhs of trees being looked after by the volunteer-based group

Reportedly, Team 10 is taking care of 3 lakh trees with its own resources. It has been mentioned that the group takes no monetary assistance from the government for this purpose. Seven years ago, Sushil Agarwal, a timber merchant started this program collaborating with his friend Gopal Verma. Initially, they used to take spades, a water tank, termite killer, manure in a car to aid the sick plants. As per reports, Sushil wishes to convert Vidhyanagar into the city's greenest areas.

Having travelled to 34 nations, he has realised the ways in which India stands gifted with abundant flora. He says that the citizens have to chose what they want to leave behind for the upcoming generations, a world full of materialistic developments or a safe and secure natural environment.

Towards a greener and richer tomorrow

Institutionalized as Arpan Lok Vikas Samiti, the group carries 2-3 hours of welfare work for the plants every morning. Reportedly. the costs account for nearly 2 lakhs every month, through which plants lying on a stretch of 10-11 km are protected. Besides this, the group also undertakes a host of projects for a greener tomorrow. Reports state the volunteers have participated in cleanliness and beautification drives besides setting up 500 cement dustbins and implementing other similar initiatives in the past.

Knock Knock

In the current age of widespread economic developments, there is rampant negligence of Mother Nature and her gifts. We seldom forget that only sustainable routes to development reap positive results in the long run. While this initiative definitely deserves an applause, it is pertinent that we contribute our bit towards preserving the environment at our individual levels too.
