Cold wave grips Kanpur with significant temperature drop & reduced visibility
On Monday, Kanpur experienced an intense cold wave, with the sunlight remaining elusive throughout the day and biting cold winds persisting. The wind speed recorded was 3.2 km/h, causing the temperature to plummet by approximately four degrees compared to the preceding day.
The mercury struggled to rise above 10.2°C throughout the day. Additionally, the city faced significantly reduced visibility during both morning and evening hours, with distances restricted to a mere 50 meters.
Responding to these frigid conditions, the Meteorological Department declared Tuesday as a 'Cold Day', issuing a warning that the bone-chilling weather was expected to persist for the next 24 hours. Moreover, a thick blanket of fog enveloped the Gangetic plain, prompting the IMD to issue a poor visibility alert for the next 72 hours.
