Driving on the wrong side can now attract license suspension in Kanpur

In recent road security committee‘s meeting, Divisional Commissioner passed an order that vehicle drivers driving on the wrong side will now face driving licence suspension. The decision has been taken in view of the rising number of road accidents in Kanpur.

All concerned departments have been asked to coordinate to prevent accidents in the city.

Striker rules for people driving on the wrong side

In the recent meeting, it was highlighted that in major area such as Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat and Etawah, the number of accidents as compared to last year have decreased. However, 1,116 challans were issued for driving on the wrong side, last year. Expressing displeasure on the fact, authorities are inclined towards taking strict actions under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. 

To this effect, it was decided that even if the driver of the vehicle belonged to another district/state, the licence details will be sent to the authority for immediate action. The citizens can also click and send photographs of people driving on the wrong side, the culprit shall be apprehended as soon as possible. Apart from this, if vehicles without number plates are found on the road, immediate action be taken to detain the driver.

Moreover, public awareness programme on major factors leading to road accidents such as use of phone while driving, drunken driving , over speeding, will be organised by officials.
