Kanpur Metro Update | TBM Tatya moved downline by 215 metres using 'Dragging' method
The tunnelling work on the underground metro corridor of Kanpur Metro route is progressing rapidly. The 'Nana' TBM recently completed the 'up-line' tunnelling work of approx 750 metres between Chunniganj and Naveen Market.
On the other hand, the 'Tatya' Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), currently engaged in the 'downline' tunnelling activity, underwent a relocation process within the under-construction Naveen Market underground Metro station. TBM Tatya was effectively moved up to a distance of 215 meters, from one end to the opposite end, using the 'dragging' method.
More about the ongoing tunnelling work on Kanpur Metro Corridor
On Sunday, the TBM was successfully relocated and precisely positioned at the opposite terminus of the Naveen Market underground station within the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, using 'dragging' technique. Remarkably, the intricate task was accomplished within a remarkably short timeframe of merely 12 days.
Prior to commencing this operation, the civil engineers from UPMRC had already concluded the construction of the foundational level at the Naveen Market underground Metro station. Subsequently, the TBM, securely positioned on a cradle, was transported from one end to the opposite terminus using a hydraulic jack.
Following this, the Tatya TBM will be engaged in the construction of the downline tunnel to Bada Chauraha, stretching 516 metres. Furthermore, as per the detailed project report (DPR) released by UPMRC, the overall metro project of the city is estimated to be finalized by the end of the year 2024.
