Knocksense Shorts | TBM proceeds for tunnelling on Kanpur Metro's Bada Chauraha-Nayaganj stretch
Following the allocation of the massive budget for the construction of Kanpur's metro corridor during the annual UP State Budget announcement, the project is now making significant strides. It is advancing rapidly, particularly in the Chunniganj-Nayanganj underground corridor. This Monday, the 'Tatya' tunnel boring machine (TBM) was set afloat using a launch shaft at the Chunniganj underground metro station.
Reportedly, the TBM is to undertake the construction of a 1,264-metre-long 'downline' tunnel from Chunniganj to Bada Chauraha via Naveen Market. Upon completion, a retrieval shaft will be established at Bada Chauraha to retrieve the TBM.
The street route between Chunniganj and Nayaganj is one of the busiest ones in the city. With the help of 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBMs, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has been able to construct underground tunnels passing through the heart of the city with complete safety and without affecting the road networks of Kanpur.
