It has been stated that these predictions will hold true only if certain assumptions are satisfied.

While the country witnessed a towering peak of cases with high fatalities in mid-May, the SUTRA mathematical model developed by researchers from 3 institutes has some positive predictions now. As per the inferences of the study, cases are expected to lower significantly in the upcoming days and they will reach a figure similar to February tallies, by early July. Further, some reports also state that the graph would dip below the 1K-mark by mid-August, given certain conditions are followed.

It is to be noted that these predictions are anticipated to turn into reality, only if vaccination drives are implemented at an amplified rate and no new mutants emerge. Reportedly, the scientists have also mentioned that extensive inoculation may be helpful in arresting the effects of the third wave if there are no variant virus strains. Additionally, the predictions of Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive) and Removed Approach (SUTRA) will hold true, only if all pandemic-related guidelines are properly followed.

Notably, this model has been developed by IIT Kanpur professor Manindra Agrawal, deputy chief integrated defense staff (Med), Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar and IIT Hyderabad faculty, Prof Mathukumalli Vidyasagar. Reportedly, the three scientists were grouped together by the Ministry of Science and Technology, to predict the future of the pandemic.
