Sports centre, new ring road project & other initiatives in store for Kanpur
The Uttar Pradesh government released the state budget 2022-23 to allocate funds for several visionary development projects in the state. Similarly, dedicated allocations for district development were also earmarked to bolster, civic, safety, economy, environment, sports and infrastructural schemes. Economy & small businesses
The Uttar Pradesh government has duely recognised the immense potential of small businesses in Kanpur. As such, the UP Budget 2022-23 has opened more funds for cultivating and growing MSMEs in the city.
Safety and security
Under the scope of the budget, an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) cell will be set up in Kanpur. Reportedly, similar centres have also been proposed at Meerut, Bahraich, Azamgarh and Rampur to check terrorist activity and boost public security.
The state has also tabled to set up a UP Special Security Force to safeguard significant installations across the state. An allocation of ₹276.66 crores has been proposed for the same.
Environment
While the Union govt is already allocating and spending funds to Clean River Ganga, the state of Uttar Pradesh has earmarked a total of ₹97.42 crores for centre's Namami Gange Swachata Mission and Nirmal Ganga projects.
This budget will dedicatedly be used for the cleaning of river banks with a focus on the execution of standard water management initiatives. Besides, separate fund has been set aside for the “Jal Jiwan Mission” under the Namami Gange campaign.
Sports and Education
The Uttar Pradesh Budget 2022-23 also includes funds for a sports centre in Kanpur’s Maqsoodabad area. As per the reports, a slew of projects are already running in full swing under the Khelo India project, where the state budget allocation will act as a requisite boost.
In additon to this, funds have also been set aside to promote quality education in Kanpur. A special budget has been awarded to modernise Arabic and Persial madrassas. Plans and funds also indicate at the decision to set up a government college in the city.
Roadways and Infrastructure
The funds awarded are in line with Kanpur's expansions and the construction of an outer ring road. A project report for the same has already been drafted by the Divisional Commissioner and the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA). As per the blueprints, this is a 100 kilometre-long link road, connecting Kanpur to other major cities of the state.
