In an attempt to encourage more women to enrol in the police forces, the UP government is going to set up three all-women battalions in the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

Reportedly, the three battalions will be named after legendary women martyrs from the state i.e. Jhalkari Bai, Rani Avantibai Lodhi and Uda Devi who fought bravely during the freedom struggle of India.

These PAC battalions will come up in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Badaun districts and will create as many as 1,262 employment opportunities for women in the UP PAC force.

More about the all-women battalions

The initiative will be a part of the 'Mission Shakti' program of Uttar Pradesh which was started back in September 2021 and seeks to empower women and to create a safe environment for them in society.

Furthermore, the 1,262 all-women vacancies will include multiple posts such as commandant, deputy commandant, assistant commandant, inspector, camp organizer, head constable, constable and cook, for which the recruitments are underway.
