Though Lucknow residents undertook a comparatively safer journey through the first year of the pandemic, the situation overturned with the incidence of the deadly second wave. As per records, 1,49,700 individuals got infected by the virus in the past 50 days, since the start of April. Driven by this accelerated spike, the cumulative tally of affected patients stands at 2,35,579, now. Consequently, the higher rate of infection converted to a high fatality rate too, with 1,126 registered deaths in the last two months.
While 1,211 fatalities were recorded in the 12 month period preceding April 2021, a similar figure has been reached just in a period of 50 days now. On the brighter side, a large chunk of infected individuals has recovered in the city, which has been conducive to lowering the tallies of active patients. Though the present-day carries optimistic signs for the future, one cannot do away with a strict and agile guard, if the stability has to be restored quickly.

Lucknow was one of the first cities in the state to start inoculation for citizens above the age of 18. In the past 4 days, almost 58,897 doses have been given and the total progressive count stands at 7,65,046 today. Here, it is important to acknowledge that immunisation is the most reliable shield against the virus in the present tumultuous times.
