Ahead of the monsoon season, LMC embarks on a drainage cleaning drive in Lucknow
Ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has begun a dedicated drainage cleaning drive across the city. Notably, the civic body conducts an in-depth cleaning of all the drains in the city twice a year, every year. In the same strive, LMC is now undertaking various measures to ensure clean drains before the rainy season hits the city.
Drive to conclude by May 31
The civic body has been carrying out this drainage cleaning drive across the city at a fast pace to meet the target by May end. As per the directives laid out by the Mayor of Lucknow, all 1,554 drains across the city are to be cleaned before the onset of monsoons.
Reportedly, there are 932 small drains in the city's drainage network. According to the target set, these drains are expected to be cleaned by May 25 while the date set for the cleaning of the entire drainage network is May 31.
Move to tackle water logging
This initiative is aimed to mitigate the risk of water clogging in the city during rains. District Commissioner Abhay Pandey has directed all the zonal sanitary officers in Lucknow to ensure proper sewage cleaning.
Punitive action will be taken by the authorities against officers who fail to complete this work in their designated areas within the stipulated deadline. Moreover, if any area gets waterlogged during the upcoming monsoon, strict action will be taken against the officer-in-charge.
