Interestingly, this area was originally a part of the renowned Jim Corbett National Park, when the state of Uttarakhand came under the ambit of Uttar Pradesh. After the partition of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Jim Corbett became an entity of the hilly state while Amangarh continued to be under the jurisdiction of UP.

As of now, there are three tiger reserves in the state- Amangarh, Dudhwa and Pilibhit. Dudhwa National Park lies on the terai belt of Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district while Pilibhit lies on the Gangetic Plain along the India-Nepal border. Both the reserves are renowned for their state-of-the-art infrastructure and the enthralling wildlife they house.

Being a buffer land for Jim Corbett National Park, Amangarh welcomes many wild animals from there. It is now a corridor for Asiatic Elephants, tigers and other wildlife. Currently, the park is famous for its Asiatic Elephants and the magnificent tigers, who are star attractions of this region. In addition to this, Cheetal, Sambhar, Kakar, Leopard and the like have also found a home in the park, making it a prestigious centre of natural biodiversity.

Amangarh to be renamed as the 'New Corbett Tiger Reserve'

In a bid to boost ecotourism, the park will be renamed as New Corbett (Amangarh) Tiger Reserve. It is going to be a full-fledged tiger reserve, equipped with top-notch infrastructure. To give the park its due promotion, these decisions were taken on September 14 by Dudhwa Tiger Conservation Foundation.

The Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change stated that the reserve should be developed on the same parameters, as the famous centres in the nation. Reportedly, it was also stated that the ecotourism of UP will commence from November 1, instead of November 15.

Keeping in mind the surge in COVID-19 cases, the park does not allow many visitors at the same time, so it is advised to call and confirm before planning a trip. While a pair of binoculars will surely amplify your experience here, you must not forget to carry masks, sanitisers and gloves on your trail through this magnetic reserve!
