Lucknow charts COVID-19 recovery; fresh case tally sees a dip for second consecutive day

Pointing towards a recovery trend, fresh infections in Lucknow have dipped for two consecutive days on Monday, bringing a huge respite to the city. Around 1,818 new coronavirus cases were reported here on January 24, down from 2,326 cases on Sunday and 2660 on Saturday. With 2402 recoveries, the healing wave surged stronger than the daily transmission load, adding to the pandemic relief here. However, a single virus-related fatality indicated that the COVID threat has not completely subsided.

COVID cases dip across the state

The overall dip in COVID case figures has been identified as a state phenomenon. Fresh cases continued to spiral downwards for the three days at the state level, strengthening the recovery trends in UP. As per reports, Uttar Pradesh logged in 11,159 new Covid cases, significantly lower than the tallies recorded earlier.

According to the press statement of Amit Mohan Prasad, the Additional Chief Secretary of Medical Health, UP, the case positivity ratio is also lowering in the state. Statistically speaking, the rate of positivity in Uttar Pradesh has dipped from 7.78% on January 19 to 6.19% in less than a week.

5-day testing campaign launched in Uttar Pradesh

Meanwhile, the state has further undertaken a five-day-long special door-to-door testing campaign to trace and treat new COVID cases. As many as 73,000 surveillance committees comprising ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and members of surveillance committees have deployed across all districts to conduct tests under this model drive. The door-step teams will run RT-PCR tests for all people exhibiting COVID or influenza-like symptoms, added reports.

UP hits another vaccination milestone

Uttar Pradesh achieved yet another landmark victory against the battle against COVID spread by becoming the first state in India to have administered over 25 crore doses of coronavirus vaccines. To put into perspective, UP alone has provided 25.05 crore jabs of the 162.7 vaccines inoculated in the country. This suggests that the state accounts for about 15.3% of the nationwide vaccination drive.
