E-bus services from Lucknow to be extended to nearby rural areas
In a bid to make eco-friendly public transport in the city more accessible, Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob on Tuesday issued orders to increase the number of e-buses in Lucknow's fleet of electric buses. The new buses will ply along different routes in Lucknow and will also connect the city centre to nearby rural areas, ensuring efficient connectivity even to remote areas.
Ensuring last mile connectivity
The plan for rural connectivity via e-buses was introduced recently and is expected to start on October 25. Trials for the same are already underway. The move aims at offering better connectivity to distant parts of the city, providing convenience to the commuters.
Currently, 140 e-buses ply on different routes in Lucknow, out of which 40 e-buses will be allotted to the city transport department to run in rural areas in Lucknow. Furthermore, a schedule for e-buses running in rural areas will be put at each bus stop, offering all transport-related info at one place.
E-buses to soon replace CNG buses
Lucknow's suburban region connectivity is backed by over 120 CNG buses. Thousands of people commute through these buses on daily basis. The extension of E-buses on these routes will boost connectivity in the town and nearby regions and ensure the city's target to reduce carbon emissions.
Additionally, plans are underway to replace all the CNG buses running in the city with 200 E-buses. For this, dedicated bus stations, equipped with charging facilities and appropriate infrastructure will be constructed. Right now, the proposal is in the initial phases, once a proper survey is conducted, the proposal will move forward.
