Flipkart Grocery sets up its first fulfilment centre in Lucknow

Flipkart's first grocery fulfilment centre in Uttar Pradesh was virtually inaugurated on Wednesday. The fulfilment centre, located in Lucknow, will provide consumers in Kanpur, Lucknow and Allahabad with delivery service of a wide selection of grocery products. This is the e-commerce giant's first foray into this sector, in the state. Spread across an area of nearly 50,000 square feet, this is a state of the art facility which will give a much-needed push to e-commerce in Lucknow.

Perhaps the best thing to come out of the inauguration of the grocery fulfilment centre in Lucknow is that it will stimulate an increase in the local food processing industry by connecting producers with customers across the state.

Another interesting facet about the grocery fulfilment centre is that it is expected to generate a slew of new job opportunities. As of now, Flipkart is setting up their supply chain and will work with a host of local transport contractors, staffing vendors, security agencies, consumable suppliers and other administrative and housekeeping agencies. Spokespeople have confirmed that the new centre will create more than 500 direct and thousands of indirect job opportunities.

The fulfilment centre will augment the capabilities of the e-commerce giant and producers within the state thereby catering to the e-grocery needs of the consumers. Right now, e-commerce is one of the biggest propellers of economic activities. In UP, there is a lot of untapped potential, which is why it is great to see Flipkart pushing the limits of what we can do with the e-grocery scene in Uttar Pradesh.
