Lucknow will soon get its first pathology lab located in Sadar Gurudwara, following the lines of Delhi's Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. The Guru Har Rai lab is named after the seventh Nanak of the ten Gurus of Sikh religion.

In what will be one of many instances of offering selfless deeds and social services, this initiative will help people get diagnostic tests done at a much cheaper rate. Tests will also be free for the financially weaker sections. The lab will be functional from April 16.

"This will be the first pathology cum diagnostic lab started by any gurdwara in Uttar Pradesh," said the president of Sadar Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Harpal Singh Jaggi.

The aforementioned lab will work in the following manner; it will conduct pathology tests for diabetes, thyroid, dengue, malaria, HIV and tumour, besides others, in its first peg. While in its second phase, a diagnostic and radiology centre, along with a blood bank, will be established. These developments, slated to come up in the next six months, will offer services like MRI and CT scan.

"Anyone can visit the lab for tests and the rates will be cheapest in the market," Harpal Singh Jaggi said.

He continued, "Blood tests for diabetes will be available for ₹10-12 and Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) for ₹600. In private labs, these tests cost 5-10 times higher. The tests will be free for people below the poverty line."

Sample collection centres for the lab will also be made at numerous gurdwaras in Naka, Aashiyana, Yahiyaganj, and Chander Nagar, for the convenience of patients.

The lab, that will render pathology tests and run mostly by crowdfunding, will have its own panel of doctors associated. A hospital is also expected to be constructed later, confirmed the committee president.
