“Studied from IIM Lucknow” – does have a joyous ring to it, right? It is a dream for every student to study at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), especially in the Lucknow campus, for it‘s pedagogical brilliance. Aided with a library, labs, a computer centre, sports and recreation facilities, student life here is a jam-packed extravaganza.

Inculcating an entrepreneurial spirit in students, the mess service, Annapoorna, is run by several students from the campus itself, which is just one of the interesting tidbits about this B-school. So brace yourself, for here are some lesser known facts about IIM-L.

All major buildings in the campus are named in Sanskrit 

Inspired by medieval Indian architecture with red brick style, all major buildings in the campus are named in Sanskrit. Spread over an area of 200 acres, IIM-L has six wings, namely Chintan (faculty building), Bodhgriha (PGP building), Manthan (MDP building), Gyanodaya (library), Samadhan (administrative building), and a computer centre.

IIM Lucknow has a wildlife galore 

IIM Lucknow is not just home to students but a variety of animals as well. Night owls, snakes, peacocks and porcupines are often found strolling through the lush green lawns of the campus.

Did you know that the campus was barren in the 1980s but through the institute’s tree plantation campaign, it has been converted into a beautiful campus.

‘Aarohan‘ an annual management festival by IIM Lucknow

IIM Lucknow organises a parade of riveting competitions, through its annual management festival. Some of the competitions for the festival are Money Matters (finance competition), Mercator (Marketing competition), Scedastic (data-analysis competition) and more, which keep the students enthralled throughout.

IIM Lucknow also has a Noida campus 

The IIM Lucknow established a second campus at Noida in 2005, leveraging it’s close proximity to Delhi. The campus runs exclusive executive programs like a one year MBA program (IPMX) and a two year PGP. Classes are scheduled mostly on the weekends.

Facilities for physically challenged students

To make education available for everyone, 80% of the institution‘s buildings have lifts and ramps, along with specially designed toilets for handicapped students. Further, the institution offers movement aids, including wheelchairs and transportation from one building to another.

A massive library for not just students but also non-students 

Stocking more than 60,000 books from management and related fields, the Gyanodaya Library at IIM Lucknow is accessible to students and faculty, round the clock. It is connected to massive databases and online journals too. Not only insiders, but outsiders too can access the library after taking Gyanodaya membership.

Being a pioneer and providing quality education to its students, IIM Lucknow has some prestigious feathers in its cap, including the famous, Late Shanmughan Manjunath, Former Manager- Indian Oil Corporation and Mr. Ajit Thakur- CEO, Eros International Media Limited. Playback singer, Gayatri Ganjawal and Nitin Seth, former COO of Flipkart, walked through the hallways of this institute.

Being a premier institute for management studies, IIM Lucknow has set a yardstick in academic excellence. While we tend to associate IIM Lucknow with hellish assignments and deadlines, it's not all just studies here.
