Keeping an unregistered pet in Lucknow can hurt your pocket; 11 charged with ₹5k fine

Lucknow Municipal Corporation is currently carrying out a drive to identify unregistered pets in Lucknow. Those found owning unlicensed pets are being slapped with a fine of ₹5,000, with nearly a dozen owners already penalized.

The drive is to make sure more and more pet owners in Lucknow get their cats and dogs registered. After all, if left unregistered, pets are exposed to a multitude of risks to their wellbeing, including missing out on quick and well-informed medical treatment.

From the perspective of pets, registration makes it easier for them to be found if they go missing. Furthermore, if your pet is registered, it becomes easier for veterinarians to offer quick medical treatment as all their vaccination details are available.

For instance, if all owners get their pets registered with LMC, the authorities will be able to prepare a proper database of pets in Lucknow. Not only will it become easier to track lost pets and provide medical treatment, pet registration also helps put a stop to the menace of illegal breeding.

LMC officials are on the lookout for unregistered pets, slapping an aggregate fine of over ₹40,000 on around a dozen pet owners of unlicensed canines. It is noteworthy that these inspections are expected to go on for days to come in several areas of Lucknow.

But you can still avoid the ₹5,000 fine for unregistered pets in Lucknow by getting your furry friend registered now. The license fee to get foreign and crossbred dogs registered is ₹1,000 while the same for indigenous breeds is just ₹200, as per the Animal Welfare Officer at LMC.

In order to get your pet registered with LMC, all you need to do is produce their medical and neutering certificates and pay the annual fees as mentioned above. Once these proceedings have been completed, the pet license will be issued within a week.
