Amidst the increasing incidence of conjunctivitis infections within the city, government hospitals in Lucknow have recorded a staggering 50% surge in cases over the course of a week. Notably, a majority of these cases pertain to schoolchildren between the ages of 10 and 16, who have been affected by eye flu.

The ophthalmology outpatient department at Lok Bandhu Hospital has experienced a substantial five-fold rise in eye flu cases, escalating from a daily average of 30 cases to an alarming 150 cases per day. This concerning trend is also being observed at other prominent medical institutions in Lucknow, such as KGMU and SGPGIMS.

The eye flu outbreak is mostly observed during the monsoon season. This is mostly attributed to humid weather conditions and unhygienic environment which leads to the rapid growth of viruses. Along with this, the medical authorities have strongly advised people to seek medical assistance instead of resorting to home remedies or even procuring over-the-counter medicines from local medical stores.
