Knocksense Shorts | Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 hits Lucknow

Quakes of magnitude 3.6 and 3.1 also hit a part of J&K and Pithoragarh, according to NCS.

While most of the city folks were deep asleep at the time, many felt the jolt of an earthquake in Lucknow in the wee hours on Saturday. Reportedly, a tremor of magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale and was felt at around 1:12 AM on August 20. The north-northeast part of UP's capital experienced the jolt 82 km deep below the ground.

Besides the earthquake in Lucknow, other regions that experienced the quake this morning were Pithoragarh (3.6 mag), Jammu & Kashmir's Hanley village (3.1 mag), the National Center for Seismology (NCS) tweeted.

'BhooKamp' in the city

The NCS took to Twitter to update the precise details. It happened 139 km NNE of Lucknow, they said, while encouraging citizens to download the BhooKamp mobile app for future intimations.

"I felt my bed shake at night for what seemed like a second and I had a strong feeling that it was a mild earthquake. My doubts were confirmed when I woke up to the news," shared a resident of Indira Nagar.

The last earthquake (of 6.7 magnitude on Richter) was experienced in the city on April 28, 2015.
