A token of sheer pride — a heritage that sings of cultural and historical narratives of the city, the Chota Imambara is currently in desperate need of attention.

The monument's building blocks, lakhuari bricks, are exposed with plastic peeling off the walls and pillars and the rain is further deteriorating its condition. Apart from that, the various encroachments (such as kiosks, eateries, a police post) in the premises pose a threat to the monument further. The conditions have been speedily deteriorating and Lucknow's locals and activists have been voicing demands to restore Chota Imambara, inorder to bring the attention to the monument.

A striking landmark, the 19th century monument was built between 1837-42 by Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah.
