Police Commissioner D.K. Thakur stated that law enforcement officials are frequently accused of extortion during vehicle checks or any other dispute. Additionally, complaints of indecent and impolite behaviour are also reported during police raids. Today, it is often observed that citizens resort to recording events through their mobile phones and publicising them when an altercation happens. While the video carries the activities of the police officials, it does not include the act of the complainant.
With the provision of body-worn cameras, both the parties involved will have to ensure righteous behaviour. Speaking about the new development, ADCP North Prachi Singh informed about the standardised quality of the devices. She also stated that 240 body-worn cameras are already being used in the rural and urban areas of Lucknow. Having facilities of high-resolution photography and sound video recording, the new cameras will be connected to the servers in respective zones.
Camera comes with a battery backup of 2 days

Whenever a police officer will start the body-worn camera, the screen linked to the zone server will start displaying the live footage and this will also get saved in the record directory. Besides, the ADCP also apprised that the camera would emit laser light when it is turned on. This would indicate that the footage is being recorded but the other person would be unaware of it.
While the camera comes with a battery backup of 2 days, it can operate for 12 hours upon continuous recording. After being implemented on a large scale, this scheme would revolutionise police dealings.
