Lucknow's Ekana Stadium to host India-Sri Lanka T20 match in 2022

Raising thrill and excitement amid cricket lovers across the city, Lucknow's Ekana Stadium has found a place in the BCCI's latest schedule for the international T20 matches, to be held in 2022. As per the release, Atal Bihari Vajpayee international stadium will host a match between India and Sri Lanka on 18th March 2022. Reportedly, the Indian cricket team will play an international match in the capital city after a period of 4 years.

As per reports, international cricket is all set to make a massive comeback in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In line with this, Kanpur's Green Park Stadium has been chosen for the India-New Zealand test match to be held in November 2021. Reportedly, the Ekana Stadium was designated for this match firstly but the plans got altered later.

In 2018, Lucknow provided the ground for an international T-20 match against West Indies. Now, the city is gearing up for the upcoming event in 2022. As per reports, BCCI has shifted its attention on the state-of-the-art Ekana Stadium, with an aim to transform it into a top-notch cricket centre.

Firstly, Ekana Stadium hosted primary matches in 2016, which was followed by the India-West Indies T20 match in 2018. Thereafter, the venue was set to witness a series between India and South Africa, which got cancelled due to the pandemic.

Notably, a test match between India and Sri Lanka was played at Lucknow's K.D. Singh Babu Stadium in 1994. Around 28 years later, the cricket infrastructure in the city has been upgraded and revamped to match international standards. With the advent of advanced facilities, it is expected that Lucknow will soon transform into a hub of sports activities.
