In a significant development, Lucknow University (LU) has announced that postgraduate applicants will now have the option to change streams. Students will be able to change streams upon qualifying the university entrance exam during the 2024-25 academic session.

This decision aligns with the guidelines outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasize the importance of providing candidates with the opportunity to transition between different fields of study.

Guidelines for switching streams after qualifying LU's entrance exam

The university prioritizes student choice over fixed academic frameworks, the objective is to foster a more inclusive and flexible learning atmosphere.

Here's the newly issued eligibility criteria by Prof. Geetanjali Mishra, Dean of Academics at LU:

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline to be eligible for consideration.

  • Successful completion of the university entrance test is a prerequisite for stream change consideration.

  • The entrance test evaluates candidates' knowledge based on their undergraduate syllabus, featuring 100 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark.

Upon successfully passing the university entrance exam in their chosen stream, candidates will have the flexibility to switch to available streams at LU, subject to seat availability in the desired course.

LU's emphasis on student choice over rigid academic structures reflects its commitment to fostering an inclusive and adaptable learning environment.
