Lucknow's Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences is all set to become the third institute in the city to provide blood transfusion to children suffering from thalassemia. The institute is making preparations to set up a new thalassemia ward which will have a capacity of 6 beds.

Only PGI and KGMU offer thalassemia treatment in Lucknow

Currently, SGPGI and KGMU are the only two medical institutes in Lucknow that offer blood transfusion to kids suffering from thalassemia and a total of 470 children are registered collectively in these institutes. Out of the two, SGPGI is the biggest center for said treatment with 400 children registered there.

Once the new thalassemia ward is up and running at the Lohia Institute in Lucknow, the load on the existing health institutes will ease a little and patients will not have to worry about delays in their due date for blood transfusion.
