Over 10 lakh youths inoculated in UP

Being the state with the second-highest vaccination tally, Uttar Pradesh has added another accomplishment in its battle against the pandemic. Extending its list of first, Uttar Pardesh administration has been successful in giving immunity booster jabs to the largest count of beneficiaries in the 18+ category, amongst all states till now. As per records, around 10 lakh individuals aged between 18-44 have received their first vaccine dose in the territory, helping it grab the top spot.

As per the statements of a government representative, Uttar Pradesh has the maximum count of recipients in the 18-44 category now, after the drive was initiated nationally. Given the rampant spread of new variants, the youths have been severely affected by the second wave and this immunity cover shall safeguard them against the contagion. Further, the state officials also aim to immunise parents of children below 10 years of age, in view of the anticipations regarding the third wave.

"Before the third wave of corona arrives, we are making arrangements to provide protection to the parents of all children under 10 years of age by giving them vaccine doses," stated the spokesman. Acquiring the top rank in COVID vaccination, the state has administered a total of 1,62,16,379 jabs till now. As per records, 1,28,74,451 have been given the first doses and around 33,41,928 have received second doses of vaccine.

State amps up preparations in view of an expected third wave

On an official visit to Kanpur, the CM asked the authorities to ensure that all medical equipment related to child healthcare must be restored and revived for full usage as soon as possible. Alerted by the expected occurrence of a third wave, the administration has mandated that all medical colleges should establish 100 ICU pediatric beds. Further, directives call for setting up 100 beds for (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) NICU with oxygen and 20-25 NICU beds in district hospitals. Additionally, some CSC (Common Service Centre) must also be instituted in rural regions.

Currently, the state stands enveloped under extended lockdown till 7 AM on May 31. It is important that the citizens adhere to all norms and protocols if a further escalation in cases has to be prevented.
