Get ready to pay an increased charge for treatment and diagnostic tests at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow. The new hospital tariff rates have been implemented with immediate effect.

Reportedly, a dedicated committee was formed to analyse hospital finances and to look into the yearly losses. During the research, it was found various charges concerning diagnostic tests and bed occupancy at the hospital have remained unaltered for the past 10 years. Owing to this the revised hospital tariff rates were regulated.

What are the revised rates?

Presumably, the rates for several diagnostic tests have gone up by 10-20%. On the other hand, the per day bed occupancy charge in the normal ward has been increased to ₹800, which stood at ₹600 previously.

Notably, patients will be now required to pay ₹10,450 instead of ₹9,500 for a Pet Scan, ₹4600 instead of ₹4000 for an MRI scan and ₹1,800 instead of ₹1,500 for a CT scan. Similarly, charges for several other tests and services have also surged.

Over the last decade, there has been a decline in the value of the Indian rupee against the dollar, resulting in an increase of import costs by 20 to 30 percent, which is why the tariff costs have been revised.
